Joseph A. Melli

Joseph A. Melli is of counsel to the firm. He has extensive experience in labor and employment law and business law and litigation, including:
 

  • Assisting employers with union-related issues, including organizing campaigns, collective bargaining, unfair labor practice charges, grievance arbitration, and picketing and strike activity.
  • Successfully defending employers against wrongful discharge and discrimination claims.
  • Representing business owners and contractors in reviewing, drafting and negotiating commercial and construction contracts.
  • Litigating business and construction disputes.
 


Mr. Melli was the Management Co-chairperson of the Constitutional Law Committee of American Bar Association's Committee on State and Local Government Employment and Labor Law (a committee of the Section on Labor and Employment Law) 1979-1990, former president of the University of Wisconsin Law School Alumni Association, and former director of the State Bar of Wisconsin Labor and Employment Law Section. The Martindale-Hubbell law directory gives him its highest rating of “AV” for professional competency and ethical conduct.

Mr. Melli is an active member of the Madison community. He currently serves as Trustee and Chair of Facilities Committee of the Madison Museum of Contemporary Art and as a member of the Board of Directors of Tandem Press (University of Wisconsin Department of Education).

Mr. Melli earned his B.A. degree (1946) and LLB (1950) from the University of Wisconsin. He is a member of the American Bar Association, the Wisconsin State Bar Association and the Dane County Bar Association.
