APPLICATIONS FOR ATTORNEY AND CLERK POSITIONS

Law Students:

We usually hire anywhere from one to three law students each summer to participate in our summer clerk program. Many of our summer clerks are second year students who we meet through the University of Wisconsin Law School’s Career Services Office.

In our summer clerkship program, we try to provide you with a variety of legal experiences to help prepare you for your career after graduation. Our goals for your clerkship include exposing you to different areas of the law, allowing you to experience working with different attorneys in our firm, and helping you to improve your legal research and writing skills. In addition, when appropriate, we will allow you to observe our attorneys in action by attending client conferences, hearings, depositions, or trials.

As a summer clerk with our firm, you will be assigned a senior associate or partner to act as a mentor. Your mentor will guide you through your summer experience, oversee your workload, provide you with feedback on your completed work, and assist with any problems or questions that arise.

Second Year Students: We encourage second-year law students interested in summer 2009 clerkships to apply no later than August 27, 2008. We are scheduled to interview at the UW Law School on September 10, 2008, and plan to conduct any follow-up interviews shortly thereafter.

First Year Students: On occasion, we hire first year law clerks; however, we do not anticipate hiring first year clerks for the summer of 2009. First-year law students who are interested in summer clerkships should apply by February 1 of that year. If we are seeking first year clerks, we will interview selected applicants in February or March.

Attorneys:

Historically, most of the attorneys hired by the firm have come from our pool of summer clerks. However, we occasionally hire new graduates, lateral transfers, and others with a more established legal practice.
